Reads like a series of essays that could all be read individually, but it even better when read in conjunction and sequence. Some of the best writing about music that I’ve ever read. One of those books that you constantly revisit to get more references.

I do not listen to much Western music and have no technical knowledge of music whatsoever, so a lot of the technicalities adagios, eso, quintets, etc left me feeling a little lost.
